Things to do this weekend, 29th November – 1st December

Jack and Dame

We officially welcome December in to Nottinghamshire this weekend, a time when the advent calendars will come out and we begin to countdown to Christmas! But before we think too far ahead, there is the very important matter of the events taking place across the county this weekend to consider. We have a great selection for you this week, from arts and culture to outdoor pursuits and craft events. Here’s our five picks for this coming weekend!

Jack and the Beanstalk at Nottingham Playhouse

This year is the 50th anniversary of the Nottingham Playhouse and not only this, but 2013 marks the 30th and final pantomime of Kenneth Alan Taylor’s illustrious career. He has played the role of the Dame for 30 years and this year he will make his final bow to the Nottingham audience.

Jack and the Beanstalk has been a staple fixture at Nottingham Playhouse for many years and this year’s performances promise to deliver as much entertainment as ever, as Jack seeks to reach new heights with his magic beans!

Tickets are still available for performances of Jack and the Beanstalk, with the opening night taking place on Friday 29th November 2013. Performances do run all the way through to the 18th January so there is plenty of time to catch a show if you can’t make it this weekend! For more information on tickets prices and availability, please visit the Nottingham Playhouse website.

We also have a competition running until 1st December to WIN a family pass for four people to a showing of Jack and the Beanstalk so click HERE to enter!

Breakfast with Santa at Twin Lakes Park

Santa Claus is approaching his busiest time of the year, but before he can come down the chimney to deliver all the presents, he needs ideas as to what to deliver! As luck would have it, he is paying a visit to Twin Lakes Theme Park this weekend to take in a spot of breakfast. So why not join him and give him your Christmas list while you’re there? Santa will be taking his seat at the breakfast table on Saturday 30th November between 10am – 5pm.

Pre-booking is essential so please contact the guys at Twin Lakes before you visit to guarantee a spot!

Retford Christmas Lights Switch On at The Square, Retford

A big sprinkle of festive cheer sweeps over Retford this weekend as the fantastic Christmas illuminations are switched on for the 2013 festive season on Saturday 30th November! It is an all day event which takes in the Christmas market set up on the Market Square, a fun-fair for the children and plenty of entertainment throughout the day. For a traditional touch, enjoy a live carol service and a brass band, performing some classic Christmas hymns.

The lights are officially switched on in the Market Place at 4.30pm, so be sure to gather around the Christmas tree for this time! For further information visit the Bassetlaw District Council page.

The Brewhouse Crafts Workshop at Making it! Discovery Centre

Whether you want to perfect the art of wrapping presents with a unique and memorable twist, or you want to create that special gift or decoration for a loved one this festive season, the one day workshop will leave you feeling like a seasoned professional in whatever you decide to have a go at!
